Original painting, oil on wood panel, 30×40 cm, 2 cm deep, 2021.
The adventures of the little paper ship in Mediterranean Sea on the coast of Mallorca. The sea is not always wild but often chilly and calm. It plays with the light weaving glowing tracery on the bottom and swaying the little ship on its waves.
Despite living in the middle of the continent, I am always attracted and enchanted by
the sea or ocean. It is the place of beauty and extreme energy; it is the material form of
liberty and power.
Strength and confidence, freedom and vigor – that’s what I experience at the seaside.
Here I can be who I am. The waves wash away my sorrows and doubts and allow
me to live in the moment. The salty water heals my inner wounds and fills me with life. It is
my charging station, my friend, my therapist.
With naturalistic and hyperrealistic style of my paintings to recreate the of presence at
the seaside unattached to the true geographic location. I like to use the lens of
minimalism – by cutting off the unnecessary and unimportant I want to free the viewer
from distraction and help to focus on the moment. Like all this words filling me while I
am watching the waves, I wish the viewer to experience the same mindfulness when
observing my artworks. My art is about feeling the spirit of water, letting it replenish
the resources and helping to self-reflect.
The diversity of the water represents an artistic challenge for me, but at the same time
gives a great opportunity for experiments in technique, colour and composition.
Original discoveries in naturally occurring form and color, play of light, rhythm and
dynamics give me a subject for my paintings. I also love to depict various objects
interacting with water. I look for the ideas for this in the great outdoors or create
compositions myself, which I then bring to the canvas in the studio.
For many years, my favorite materials have been oil paints, in combination with various
media and surfaces, such as linen, wood and aluminum. My choice goes always to
materials of highest quality. I am learning continuously about the techniques of old
masters to achieve the best visual results and most possible preservation of my artworks.
